Quick Guide to eBook Formats from Living Justice Press


PDF eBook

  • Displays pages as they appear in the print book.
  • Is usually better for larger screens, such as laptops, full-size pads, or desktop computers.
  • Is downloaded onto a device and saved on that device exclusively.
  • Cannot be copied, shared, or downloaded onto another device.
  • Is viewed using software called Adobe Digital Editions, which you need to install on your device (it's free). You will also need to establish an account with Adobe through which you authenticate your device, using your Adobe ID.
  • Enables you to print pages if you would like to share a section with colleagues.

ePub eBook

  • Displays only unformatted running text, not columns or other formatting.
  • Is usually better for small screens such as smart phones or small pads.
  • Is downloaded onto a device and saved on that device exclusively.
  • Cannot be copied, shared, or downloaded onto another device.
  • Is viewed using software called Adobe Digital Editions, which you need to install on your device (it's free). You will also need to establish an account with Adobe through which you authenticate your device, using your Adobe ID. 
  • Enables you to print pages if you would like to share a section with colleagues.

Online eBook

  • Is not downloaded to your device. It exists only on the internet (in the cloud), on your exclusive ShelfWise account. You access your books using your log-in credentials.
  • Displays pages as they appear in the print book.
  • Is readable online on any device that is internet-enabled.
  • Is readable by others online using your account credentials (but only one person can use your account at a time).
  • Is also readable offline using your web browser.
  • There is no software download necessary.
  • Up to 10% of the book pages are printable, once only.

Mobipocket eBook

  • Is readable only on a Kindle device.
